WELCOME TO THE WELFARE HUB!

We are a group of students who have had enough of the status quo when it comes to the conversations around mental health in the medical school, and decided to do something about it

WE ARE HERE TO DE-STIGMATISE MENTAL HEALTH

To educate. To enlighten. To empower.

To share our stories of struggles and triumphs. To help you access help and support. To normalise mental wellbeing.

So please, take a gander, explore these pages, and arm yourselves with university contacts and mental health first aid. Take comfort in the fact that you are not alone.

Start the conversation and help us eradicate mental health stigma.

MEET THE TEAM!

Hi I’m Aisia, after being Lead Editor last year, I can’t wait to do more this year with the Welfare Hub and working with the rest of committee to put on events and increase awareness about mental health amongst medical students.

Vice President

Hi I’m Beth and I’m going to be Vice President of Welfare Hub this year. I really enjoy cooking and reading in my spare time. I wanted to get involved in welfare hub because Med school can be tough at times and wanted students to have access to resources and feel supported on their journey throughout their time at Notts. I’m looking forward to what we can do for you this year!

Hi I’m Alex, I chose to get involved with the Welfare Hub as I wanted to support the great work the committee does surrounding de-stigmatising mental health problems among medical students. In my spare time I love to go climbing to de-stress.

Ameera Haseen, Year 3
Treasurer

Hi, I’m Ameera and I’m this years treasurer. I wanted to be part of the welfare hub to help reduce the stigma around mental health and encourage more open discussions. Often medical students are worried that by seeking help it can jeopardise their future, so hopefully the welfare hub can dispel any myths.

Hi I'm Ash and I am the Lead Editor this year. I look forward to working with the committee to break down the stigma around mental illness amongst medical students as well as increasing awareness on where to seek help if they are struggling with their mental health.

Medicine is a challenging course that often has a great impact on the mental health of students. Providing medical students with mental health support throughout their time at university and reducing the stigma around talking about their mental health would be one of the responsibilities of the Welfare Hub.

Adrija De, Year 2
Lead Creative

I wanted to be a part of the Welfare Hub team because I am a strong advocate for the betterment of all student welfare. As a community, we need to continue having open and honest conversations about our mental health to stamp out the stigma attached to mental illness. I hope that through Welfare Hub's work this year, the committee will have the chance to play a small role in someone’s positive mental health journey.

Lead Creative

Hi, my name is Georgina and I am a second year medical student. I wanted to be involved in the Welfare Hub team as I wanted to be part of a project which outlines the importance of mental health within the medical field and as a student. Mental health is essential for leading a happy and healthy life and I have become passionate about reaching out to those who need support. I am very excited to be a part of this team and I hope to encourage the importance of prioritising mental health and helping medical students to be their best self!

Dwiti Ponda, Year 2
Welfare Secretary

Hi everyone, I am Dwiti and I am really looking forward to being a part of Welfare Hub next year. I love trying out new places in the city, shopping and travelling. I have always been passionate about mental heath and wellbeing and I think Welfare Hub is a great resource. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or suggestions; or if you just want to have a chat!

Eloise Young, Year 5
Clinical Representative

I’ve loved my time at Nottingham Med school, so much so I don’t want to have to leave at the end of this year. I want to make sure everyone can have as positive experience as me and enjoy their time on their clinical placements. Without the support of the welfare services at Uni I think my experiences would have been very different!
